Hello World!
I decided to start my own blog finally. In the past I have used and played with a lot of stuff (computers is my game, music what I like to do actually) but never got the time to write anything down although in my previous life as a physicist I wrote a few papers.
So finally I got the time so do speak. I need to redesign my web site also but I did not want to use something complex so that ruled out CMS software although Alfresco which I played with a bit showed some promise as well as Twiki (both of which I installed on my Ubuntu server at home).
So I came across Typo and since it runs on Ruby on Rails I decided to give it a try. I am not a developer, I am more of a Systems Admin but I can hack my way through code if I need to so I figured it would not be that bad.
It turns out it was not bad at all. I had Typo up and running fairly quick. The only problems I had were with using Apache as a proxy for Typo (my web site runs on fedora 9 and it is also my firewall and access to the Internet using cable) and that because it was late at night and should have gone to sleep and wait till the next day which I did eventually and of course it took me only 10 minutes to figure what I was doing wrong (as they say RTFM). The interesting thing is that I have done virtual domain setups and proxy with Apache for others with no problems before so go figure.
The only outstanding issue right now is that only the default theme works, if I try another theme I get the blog with no style sheets and 404 errors on the log. So that will probably be my next post when I figure it out.
So at least I can start blogging!
Ciao.
Y Dale U! (some of you may guess where I am from the snippet on the left).
